About

Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MUJWA) appeared in West Africa in 2011 after splitting off from al-Qa’ida in the Islamic Maghreb. In 2013, the group merged with al-Mourabitoun, which was then subsequently incorporated into Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM).

The U.S. Department of State named JNIM a Foreign Terrorist Organization under the Immigration and Nationality Act (as amended) on September 6, 2018.
