Abdelkarim \u00e9 l\u00edder s\u00eanior de uma companhia de combatentes sob Al-Qaeda no Magrebe Isl\u00e2mico (AQMI), uma organiza\u00e7\u00e3o classificada pelos EUA como Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o Terrorista Estrangeira.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n
Sob o comando de Abdelkarim, sua companhia adquiriu armas e executou sequestros e ataques terroristas de pequena escala em todo o norte e oeste da \u00c1frica. Abdelkarim foi supostamente respons\u00e1vel pela morte de um idoso ref\u00e9m franc\u00eas no N\u00edger em julho de 2010.
