Rewards for Justice is offering a reward of up to $3 million for information on the kidnapping of Kevin Scott Sutay. In June 2013, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) kidnapped Sutay, a former U.S. military service member, near the municipality of El Retorno, Colombia. Sutay had been trekking as a tourist through several Central and South American countries.
On July 19, 2013, the FARC released a statement claiming responsibility for the kidnapping and announced its intent to free Sutay as a good-faith gesture. However, Sutay was not released until October 27, 2013, when he was turned over to a delegation of the governments of Colombia, Cuba, and Norway, and members of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Sutay was later released to U.S. government officials in Bogota, Colombia, and flown back to the United States.
