Kilburn era bibliotecario en la Universidad Americana de Beirut. Se inform\u00f3 de su desaparici\u00f3n el 3 de diciembre de 1984. Diecis\u00e9is meses despu\u00e9s, su cuerpo fue encontrado junto a los de otros dos cautivos. Las v\u00edctimas fueron fusiladas y luego arrojadas en las monta\u00f1as al este de Beirut.
