Pearl, jefe de la oficina de Asia Meridional del Wall Street Journal, fue secuestrado en Karachi, Pakist\u00e1n, el 23 de enero de 2002. En febrero de 2002, se public\u00f3 en Internet un v\u00eddeo que mostraba su asesinato. Los restos de Pearl fueron encontrados en mayo de 2002 y devueltos a Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n\n<p>En junio de 2002, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh fue acusado formalmente en Estados Unidos con los cargos de toma de rehenes y conspiraci\u00f3n para la toma de rehenes resultante en el asesinato de Pearl, as\u00ed como del secuestro en 1994 de otro ciudadano estadounidense en la India.
