El 4 de octubre de 2017, cerca de la aldea de Tongo Tongo, N\u00edger, militantes vinculados a ISIS-GS atacaron a los miembros de un equipo de las fuerzas especiales estadounidenses encargado de entrenar, asesorar y asistir a las fuerzas nigerinas en la lucha contra el terrorismo.
