Rewards for Justice is offering a reward of up to $3 million for information on Ahmed Iman Ali. Ali is a prominent commander of al-Shabaab, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), who has served as the group’s leader in Kenya since 2012. He directs the group’s anti-Kenyan operations, which have targeted Kenyan African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops in Somalia.\u00a0One such attack in January 2016 in El Adde, Somalia, routed an entire garrison from a military base and left more than 140 Kenyan AMISOM troops dead.<\/p>\n\n
Ali is also responsible for al-Shabaab propaganda targeting the Kenyan government and civilians, such as a July 2017 video in which he threatened Muslims serving in Kenya\u2019s security forces. Ali has also served as an al-Shabaab recruiter, focusing on poor youth in Nairobi, and has raised funds at mosques to support al-Shabaab’s activities.<\/p>\n\n
On March 8, 2018, the U.S. Department of State designated Ali as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist pursuant to Executive Order 13224, as amended. As a result\u00a0of\u00a0this designation, among other consequences, all property and interests in property\u00a0of\u00a0Ali that are subject to\u00a0U.S.\u00a0jurisdiction are blocked, and\u00a0U.S.\u00a0persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with\u00a0Ali.
