Rewards for Justice is offering a reward of up to $5 million for information on the 1999 assault on tourists in Bwindi Park, Uganda.
On March 1, 1999, members of the Liberation Army of Rwanda (ALIR) attacked unarmed tourists and their guides at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. This tour group was assaulted, taken hostage, and forced to march toward the Democratic Republic of the Congo. One Ugandan, Paul Ross Wagaba, was burned alive. Eight of the victims, including Americans Susan Miller and Robert Haubner, were beaten to death.
A handwritten note was given to the survivors by the leader of the attackers, stating that the attack was to send a message to the United States and other countries to abstain from supporting the Rwandan government.
