Rewards for Justice is offering a reward of up to $5 million for information on Murat Karayilan, also known as Cemal. Karayilan is a senior leader within the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the head of the PKK’s People’s Defense Forces, the group’s military wing. The PKK is a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.
On October 14, 2009, the U.S. Department of the Treasury designated Karayilan as a Significant Foreign Narcotics Trafficker pursuant to the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act (Kingpin Act). As a result of this designation, any assets Karayilan has under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen, and U.S. persons are prohibited from conducting financial or commercial transactions with Karayilan.
